Marvel Crosson Grinning with the Joy of Flying, 1929

Like many of these Avitrix, Marvel was one of the twenty who competed in the 1929 Women's Air Derby - tragically she was killed during the race when her plane crashed during Day Two near Wellton, Arizona.  Marvel was the first woman to receive a pilot's license in Alaska and set an altitude record reaching nearly 24,000 feet in May of 1929.
